England - Lancashire - Game Bird Farm
Young birds being kept in a raised cage laying unit used for breeding and maturing pheasants at Hy-Fly Hatcheries, a company based in Preesall, near Blackpool, Lancashire which specialises in breeding partridge and pheasant to be sold to sporting estates. The partridges are kept in small cages for up to three years while they mature before being sold. Pheasants are also kept in cages but are transferred to outdoor pens as they mature. The company, which is owned by Ray Holden, produces around three million day-old chicks per year. | Location: Preesall, Lancashire, England. (Photo by Colin McPherson/Corbis via Getty Images)
