Nepal Earthquake Amputee Receives Gifts From Chelsea FC

KATHMANDU, NEPAL - AUGUST 26: 14 year-old Sandesh Basnet unfolds a Chelsea F.C. flag sent by the club and his favourite player Eden Hazard on August 26, 2015 in Kathmandu, Nepal. On April 25th, 14-year-old Sandesh Basnet was watching football in his room in a police school where he studies on the outskirts of Kathmandu when the earthquake struck the country. Part of the school collapsed on him and teachers brought him to a local hospital where he did not receive treatment. Two days later, he was brought by his family to a hospital in Kathmandu, where doctors could not save his legs. Getty photojournalist Omar Havana was working on a personal project when he met Sandesh. Sandesh explained to him that he is a huge Chelsea F.C. fan and that the team makes him happy. Omar contacted the Chelsea F.C. foundation regarding Sandesh's story and Sally Mills, Charities Administrator, ensured that a package was sent to him containing gifts from the club and Sandesh's favourite player, Eden Hazard.
