87-year-old Emily Crowhurst, who has flown from her home in New Zealand to pick up a message from her father in Co. Durham. The World War One soldier's last message to his wife reached its final destination 85 years later. * ...to the day that he threw it into the English Channel from a troop carrier. Two notes in a green Clayton's of Southampton ginger beer bottle were written by Durham Light Infantry Private Thomas Hughes as he headed for the battlefields of France in 1914, where he died in action days later.
