(Original Caption) Wes Santee, right, shows his coach, Marine Lt. Tom Rosandich his ailing calf muscle during the Metropolitan AAU meet in which the great miler was slated to run in a special race. Rosandich took Santee out of the three quarter mile run after examining his leg. The race was won by a dark horse, Joe Deady, who set a new world record of #:01.2, breaking the mark of 3;02.6 set by John Borican in 1940.
