Kiruna, SWEDEN: (FILES) Thsi picture taken 18 May 2005 showing Sweden's northernmost town of Kiruna, with the City Hall (top left) and the mining area (right), that will move its centre a few kilometers (miles) away to save it from sinking into the ground due to underground cracks created by iron ore mining. In order to continue to operate the lucrative mine, the town centre will over the next few decades have to be moved, including all major buildings, the railroad, the railroad station, the terminal, the newly-built highway, homes, water and sewage systems and electrical systems. Old wooden houses, the pride of Kiruna, will be moved on big trailers, while larger buildings, like the bulky city hall, will be cut into pieces to be moved. Greater Kiruna has 23,500 inhabitants.
