Records Are Blown Up at Comisky Park
Thousands of records are blown up in center field at Comisky Park as part of an "Anti-Disco" promotional stunt. The stunt got out of hand when thousands of specatators jammed the field and began to tear up the turf. Fans had been admitted to the double-header for 98 cents along with a disco record for the promotion. Police in riot gear had to restore order. The incident caused the second game of the double-header to be called off because of ground conditions. The White Sox lost the opening game 4-1.
