Food arranged in a pie-chart, c 1990s.
UNITED KINGDOM - FEBRUARY 18: This display illustrates the types of food necessary to provide a balanced nutritious diet, arranged into their types to form a pie chart. Included are meat and fish (which provide protein), fruit and vegetables (vitamins and minerals), bread, rice and pasta (carbohydrates), and dairy products (fats). All of these types of foods need to be consumed in the right quantities to achieve a balanced diet and prevent potential health problems from occurring. Increasingly people are eating fewer healthy foods such as fruit, and more snacks, such as crisps and sweets, which are high in calories and low in nutritional value. This is leading to an increase in obesity and other health problems caused by poor diet. Of particular concern is the growth of obesity in children. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
