This aerial photograph taken on May 22, 2010 from an aerial reconaissance flight conducted by Aceh province Governor Irwandi Yusuf to inspect the conditions of Gunung Leuser National Park and surrounding areas shows a clearing made by illegal logging in the forest in Mount Leuser located in Indonesia's western Sumatra region. Authorities conducted a review of the long term conservation program including Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). Gunung Leuser, one of the largest protected areas of rainforest remaining in Southeast Asia, has over 800,000 hectares of virgin rainforest and home to increasingly endangered orangutans, elephants, Sumatran tigers and the last of Sumatran rhinoceros.
