This 25 July, 2003, photo shows blacked out lines from the inside pages of the US congressional report on the 11 September, 2001, terrorist attacks, released 24 July. The report, which took nine months to complete after nearly two dozen hearings, suggested Saudi Arabia may have played a role in the attacks. Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the US Prince Bandar bin Sultan rejected as "blatantly false" allegations in the report the kingdom may have had a hand in the strikes. The ambassador said sections of the document dealing with possible Saudi involvement had been blacked out because they could not be substantiated. AFP confirmed through various sources close to the investigation that the top-secret pages are for the most part about the Saudi failure to clamp down on al-Qaeda, despite several US alerts to Riyadh since 1996.
