On September 19, 2021, a volcano erupted in the area of Cabeza de Vaca, in Las Manchas, in the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park, near the municipality of El Paso. After 85 days of activity, its eruption ended last December 25. According to the latest Copernicus estimate, 1,241.1 hectares have been destroyed by lava and 2,988 buildings, of which 1,345 were houses. Some 1170 families lost their only home.
