The flag of the United States is seen partially destroyed on a wall behind a homeless encampment in Los Angeles, California on August 13, 2025, where ICE raids have sparked a summer of fear among immigrant communities with many people choosing not to be seen out on the streets. US President Donald Trump began his second term on January 20 with a flurry of executive actions aimed at overhauling US immigration. His administration quickly moved to ramp up deportations, including by relaxing rules governing enforcement actions at "sensitive" locations such as schools, churches and workplaces.
