Seretse and Family Fly to Exile in England

Seretse Khama, 29-year-old exiled chief designate of the Bamangwato tribe, with his ex-London wife Ruth walk from the giant flying boat that brought them home from Africa to Southampton. An airways officer carries their baby Jacqueline, in a travel cot, and behind is Nalide, Seretse's sister Ruth wears a tweed suit and woolen gloves, though the temperature was nearing 80 degrees when they arrived. Seretse, his 25-year-old wife, and their daughter are to spend their five-year exile in England, but the chief designate says that, because of improved relations with his uncle, he homes that he will be allowed to return to the tribe long before the exile period expires.
