Death toll from floods in Brazil rises to 144

PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL - MAY 12: Rescue teams are seen with boats following heavy rains as the death toll from rains has risen to 144 in Porto Alegre, Brazil on May 12, 2024. Affecting the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul since last week, heavy rain caused steadily increasing loss of life and property. The number of injured has risen to 800, and more than 2.1 million people have been affected while more than 620,000 people have been displaced according to authorities. Rio Grande do Sul Gov.
