DES PLAINES, UNITED STATES: A replica of Ray Kroc's first McDonald's franchise 14 April, 2005 acts as a museum in Des Plaines, Illinois, as the McDonald's Corporation is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. On 15 April, 1955, Kroc, a milk shake machine salesman opened his first McDonald's in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, and started a chain of hamburger stands that now serve 50 million customers each day in more than 31,000 restaurants in 119 countries around the world.
