Collazo Shot While Attempting To Assassinate Truman
Puerto Rican would-be assassin Oscar Collazo (1914 - 1994) lies at the foot of the steps leading up the Blair House, Washington DC, November 1, 1950. American President Harry S. Truman was residing at the house (due to renovations at the White House) when Collazo and a companion attempted to assassinate him. Collazo was shot in the chest, arrested, and sentanced to death, though Truman commuted his sentance (and President Carter later pardoned him). (Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
