Peddlers Staging Protest
(Original Caption) On the day of gigantic mass demonstrations in many American cities against the Hitler persecution of German Jews, humble Jewish pushcart peddlers on New York's Lower East Side added their voice to the international protest. From the hours of two until four the peddlers refused to make any sales as a protest against the anti-Jewish campaign being waged against their brethren abroad. This scene is on Orchard Street near Grand Street.
