(Original Caption) 1/22/1974-New York, NY-ORIGINAL CAPTION: Patricia Fogarty McQuillan gains some attention after being "crowned" and named "Her Holiness Pope Patricia the First" in a Catholics for a Free Choice demonstration staged on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Cheered on by several dozen feminists, the woman "issued" an "encyclical" blasting "1,900 years of blasphemous sexist oppression by the Catholic Church." The demonstration occured on the first anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.
