Mr. Beatty and his barrister, Mr. John Timbs (left), enter the court yesterday. One of the sub-sub-underwriters of the $37 million Bisley Investment Corporation rights issue in late 1987 was a company fronted by B and McK Custodians Pty Ltd, a firm owned by partners of legal firm Baker and McKenzie. This emerged yesterday during a special examination of Spedley Securities Ltd, Spedley Holdings Ltd and Aldershot Ltd.Former GPI Ltd director Mr James Craven told the court one of the sub-sub-underwriters of the ill-fated rights issue had been Staveson Securities Pty Ltd, a Hong Kong company that he believed had been associated with Sir Ron Brierley, a New Zealand company he believed to be NZI and local Chinese interests. He said he felt Staveson needed “someone to front for them as a nominee”. April 27, 1990. (Photo by Steve Christo/Fairfax Media via Getty Images).
