Basha Village Of Miao Ethnic Minority Tribe

CONGJIANG, CHINA - MAY 24: (CHINA OUT) A Miao family (L-R), the father carrying log, son carrying hunting rifle, mother carrying poultry, pose for pictures at Basha Village on May 24, 2006 in Congjiang County of Guizhou Province, China. Basha Village, reported as the last "gun tribe" in China, is the home to over 2,000 Miao ethnic minority residents living in more than 400 households. In Miao language "Basha" means a place where trees grow prosperously. It lies on the southern border of Guizhou Province, and retains well the unique traditions and primitive tribe culture. The residents still wear costumes of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Basha men dress like ancient warriors. Some of them are armed with a knife on the waist and a fowling piece. They are also characterized with special haircut. At the age of 16, each man will have an adult ceremony when their hair is cut clearly only leaving one fistful combed into a knot.
