Rape in Congo

KANYOLA, CONGA - MARCH 14: Lwaboshi Bahati walks towards his home in the village of Kanyola, Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2004, FDLR forces (who continue to live on the other side of the mountain) raped his wife and daughter. Bahati banished his wife from their home. Last year, Bahati was educated by local community leaders who had gone through Women for Women International's Men's Leadership Program. Bahati took his wife to be tested for HIV/AIDS, and when results came back negative, he took his wife back. According to Bahati, 70% of the women in the village of Kanyola have been raped by members of the FDLR (Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda).
