Swinging Hammer
8th August 1951: Louis Stewart, a contestant in the hammer throwing competition at the Strathallan Highland Games in Stirlingshire. Highland games are held all over Scotland, and descendants of Scottish immigrants have preserved the tradition in Canada and America. Typical events include dancing, tossing the caber (a pine wood pole approximately 5 metres long) and throwing the weight, a ball weighing about 25 kg.
