John Huston Reads Letter to John Wayne

(Original Caption) 1/8/1958-Kyoto, Japan- When movie director John Huston gets a letter from home, he throws as much zest into its telling as he does in directing actors in a scene. The colorful director takes time here between scenes in the filming of "The Townsend Harris Story" to read a letter to actor John Wayne, who plays Harris, the first American Consul to feudal Japan 100 years ago. Quipped Wayne of the expressive Huston, "He's the best actor on the set."
