circa 1810: John Randolph, of Roanoke (1773-1833). American politician. Member, US House of Representatives 1779-1813, 1815-17, 1819-25, 1827-29, member, US Senate 1825-27, a strong supporter of states' rights, opposed Jefferson from 1805, opposed the War of 1812 and the Missouri Compromise 1820-21.
