circa 1860: John Fulton Reynolds (1820 - 1863). American soldier. Graduated West Point 1841, in Mexican War 1846 - 47, instructor of tactics, West Point 1860. In Civil War, a brigadier general of volunteers 1861, commanded units in Army of the Potomac, captured at Gaines Mill, VA, and exchanged August 1862, at Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, declined command of Army of the Potomac.
