Eddie Arcaro Biting into Entire Birthday Cake

(Original Caption) Jockey Eddie Arcaro celebrates his 40th birthday a day early by biting into a huge cake shortly after he rode Nashua into first place in the Widener Handicap at Hialeah Park. It was Nashua's first race after a four month layoff during which he changed hands for $1,251,200. The Widener victory brought Nashua's earnings to over the million mark. At right, managing a faint smile as Arcaro does the honors, is jockey John Adams who ended up in last spot aboard Prince Noor.
