Martha "Sunny" Von Bulow
In the late evening of December 20th, 1979, Martha Sharp Crawford Von Aufsperg Von Bulow (shown in a 1976 photo) sat in the library of her mansion on Millionaires' Row in Newport, Rhode Island, and drank a cup of chicken soup. It was her last conscious evening to date. She suddenly became weak and was carried upstairs to bed. The next morning, her husband, who the state of Rhode Island says brought her the soup, found her unconscious on the bathroom floor. Her husband, Claus Von Bulow, a dashing Cambridge-Educated Danish Aristocrat who once was a legal and diplomatic advisor to billionaire J. Paul Getty, stood accused of twice attempting to kill her with insulin injections, just after Christmas in 1979, and just before Christmas in 1980.
