Starving Man

(Original Caption) 5/5/1946-Hunan Province, China: Hunan Province, once known as the "Rice Bowl of Central China," no longer has rice, nor any other foodstuff, in quantities to keep its 30,000,000 population alive. Here is an emaciated old man who has fallen into a hunger-induced coma from which he probably will never emerge. Ironically enough, he spent the last of his strength hobbling to the wheat kitchen, but fell at the doorway, too weak to lift the bits of food to his mouth.
