Hong Kong, CHINA: A Hong Kong activist wearing a shirt reading "Japan get out of the Diaoyu Islands" looks out at the boat after their group safely sailed back into Victoria harbour in Hong Kong, 30 October 2006, as they were given a heroes' welcome after a week-long voyage to the disputed Diaoyu islands which ended in failure. Japan on 27 October repelled the Hong Kong activists who tried to sail to the disputed islands in the East China Sea, with the protesters turned away after being surrounded and sprayed with water. Japan has nominal control of the archipelago, which is also claimed by Taiwan and China, which lie about 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of Okinawa near lucrative oil and gas reserves disputed between Tokyo and Beijing.
