EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE, SA - SEPTEMBER 29: A girl leans on the communal water tap 100m from Mandela's house. Many people in the smaller communities of South Africa still have no running water, sewage or electricity. Nelson Mandela has retired to his boyhood region in the village of Qunu. His large presidential home is surrounded by mud huts, farmers and sheep. Qunu village in the heart of the Transkei in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. This has been traditionally the home of the leaders of the ANC (Mandela included) but remains largely forgotten by the government. The population there generally have substandard schools and are economically depressed. South Africa has gone through decades of upheaval and transformation.
