Northern Ireland - A Fragile Peace

Bloody Sunday as it became to be known took place on 30th January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a peaceful protest march against internment. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers while others were shot trying to help the wounded. Voters in Northern Ireland will go to the polls on March 2nd following the collapse of the Assembly power sharing executive government which has been in place since the Good Friday peace agreement.
