Pro-Russian Politician Călin Georgescu Faces Criminal Investigation In Romania

The far-right Romanian populist politician Calin Georgescu is facing a criminal investigation, after he was stopped in traffic in the capital on Tuesday and taken in for questioning. Prosecutors have said they are investigating him on suspicion of communicating false information, among other charges. Georgescu was on his way to submit his candidacy for elections in May when he was stopped. The country's Constitutional Court ruled in December to annul the first round of voting in the presidential election, after intelligence showed Georgescu benefitted from a mass influence operation mounted by Russia.
