Philippines Overtakes India As Call Centre Hub

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - DECEMBER 02: Filipino employees take calls from the U.S. in a call center in Taguig City south of Manila, on December 2, 2011 in Manila, Philippines. The Philippines has overtaken India this year in the number of workforce employed by the call center outsourcing industry due to its large English speaking population. The outsourcing workforce grew about 10 percent this year to 600,000, and is expected to expand to 900,000 employees by 2016 according to analysts. Revenues from outsourcing from call centers, health insurance processing, animation development and software programming totaled $9 billion, or 4.5 of the Philippine gross domestic product. Analysts say the call center business is growing at 25 to 30 percent a year in the Philippines, compared to 10 to 15 percent in India, and would continually generate revenues of $11 billion this year and grow by at least 15 percent annually to $20billion by 2016.
