BMW plant in Leipzig wants to become CO2-neutral
20 February 2025, Saxony, Leipzig: Vehicles are assembled on a line at the BMW plant in Leipzig. The car manufacturer is increasingly focusing on hydrogen technology in its production environment. With the acquisition of two new hydrogen trucks and hydrogen filling stations, the car manufacturer is taking a further step towards independence from fossil fuels. BMW wants to make its Leipzig site completely independent of fossil fuels by 2045 and is relying on hydrogen as an alternative energy source. Last year, the paint shop, the plant's largest consumer of natural gas, was converted to a fossil-free energy source using a hydrogen burner.
