Intercepted A Cayuco With 235 Migrants Seven Miles Off La Restinga (el Hierro)

Salvamento Maritimo has intercepted early Monday morning a cayuco with 235 sub-Saharan migrants --149 men, 64 women and 22 minors- when they were sailing about seven miles southwest of La Restinga (El Hierro). This has been reported to Europa Press by sources of the state agency, who added that it was an echo on the radar of the Civil Guard that put in warning about a possible irregular vessel near the island, so the Salvamar Navia was activated. Once in place, it located the cayuco and, due to the sea conditions and the volume of people there, it was not possible to tow it to port safely and it was necessary to send the Salvamar Nipha as reinforcement.
