Growing elvers in Maine
WALPOLE, ME - MAY 20: Earlier this month Sara Rademaker bought 4 lbs of elvers (at $1,500 a pound, down from a high of about $2,200, something of a deal). Not to eat, not to ship to Asia, like the vast majority of Maine's baby eels, but to grow. She's spent the last three years developing a commercial aquaculture for the fishery, a means to keeping bigger longterm profits of the elver business in Maine.
