A colorized engraving shows a militia raised in Connecticut Colony as they attack and ultimately set fire to an encampment of Pequot indians in what became Mystic, Connecticut, 1637. The attack, in retaliation for a Pequot seige on Fort Saybrook and several subsequent raids that resulted in approximately 30 settlers deaths. was carried out by John Mason and killed more than 600 Pequots, more burned alive.
