(Original Caption) Carpenter and Sealab II...Astronaut M.Scott Carpenter, now working as an aquanaut, stands in front of Sealab II, the Navy's second experiment in living beneath the sea, July 23, 1965. Carpenter will be one of two men to live for one month 200 feet below the surface in the Sealab off the coast of La Jolla, California. They will be joined periodically by 20 other divers in the steel cylinder, which is 12 feet in diameter and 57 feet long.
