Brazilian television magnate and TV host Silvio Sa
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL: Brazilian television magnate and TV host Silvio Santos waves 30 August, 2001, after being held hostage for seven hours in his home in Sao Paulo, and his kidnapper handed himself over to police, authorities said. Police identified the abductor as Fernando Dutra Pinto, 22, one of the kidnappers of Santos' 24 year-old daughter Patricia Abravanel. She was kidnapped last week by two masked men as she was leaving her home, and was released 28 August after, according to press reports, some 200,000 USD were paid for her ransom. Santos, a former Sao Paulo street vendor rose to become a television network owner and host of one of the country's highest-rating television shows, called "The Trunk of Happiness," where contestants can win prizes, including homes. In 1989, Santos was a presidential candidate, losing to Fernando Collor de Mello. AFP PHOTO/Mauricio LIMA (Photo credit should read MAURICIO LIMA/AFP via Getty Images)
