Boulder resident and Holocaust survivor, Walter Plywaski gave a presentation in the Boulder Creek Meeting room at Boulder's public library about his experiences in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Mr. Plywaski will spoke of the horrors of Nazi extermination and concentration camps and his journey to freedom. As a 14 year-old, he did not receive an identifying tattoo because near the end of the war, life expectancy in the concentration camps was only two weeks. Walter Plywaski's quest for freedom lead him to escape from Dachau and eventually to the United States. After serving in the US Air Force in post World-War-2 Okinawa, Walter was recommended for naturalization as a U. S. citizen. When a judge rejected his 1952 request for citizenship due to Walter's avowed atheism, the case (Wladyslaw Plywacki vs. United States of America,) reversed the judge's decision and went on to become an important judicial precedent in protecting the rights of non-theists in the United States.
