18th July 1927: Bobby Jones (1902 - 1971) holding his trophy having won the British Open at St Andrews with a record score of 285. Jones won the British Open three times (1926, 1927, 1930) and the US Open four times (1923, 1926, 1929, 1930). The Royal and Ancient golf club at St Andrews was founded in 1754 and recognised as the Governing Authority on the rules of the game in 1897.
