Billie Burke, American actress, c1903-1919. Billie Burke's (1884-1970) stage career began in London in 1903. She later returned to the United States to become a star in Broadway musical comedies. In 1914 she married Broadway impresario Florenz Ziegfeld. In 1916 Burke made her film debut, but preferred stage roles as they permitted her to have speaking parts.
