At a demonstration against right-wing extremism on February 25, 2024, in Hamburg, more than 50,000 people participated, as reported by the climate movement "Fridays for Future." The demonstrators rallied under the banner of "Wir sind die Brandmauer" ("We are the firewall"). A diverse coalition of organizations and associations supported the demonstration. Police estimates put the number of participants between 50,000 and 60,000.
The rally featured speeches by notable figures such as transformation researcher Maja Göpel, Christoph Bautz, managing director of the organization Campact, and Oliver von Wrochem, the director of the Hamburg Neuengamme concentration camp memorial site. A musical highlight came from the Hamburg band Deichkind, whose closing song emphasized the message: "We don't want Nazis and no AfD." This event marked the third large-scale demonstration of its kind in the Hanseatic city since January.
