Unique Romanov Family Pictures Coloured By Tsar's Daughters

1916: Anna Virubova, the best friend and confidante of Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna and Olga Romanov. Virubova was seen as being under the strong influence of Rasputin. She wasn't allowed to follow the Tsar's family on exile, first jailed in St. Petersburg by the Bolsheviks, she finally managed to escpae to Finland were she lived in a convent until her death in 1960's. The series of the unique pictures were taken by the Tsar Nicholas II himself or people close to the royal family. They were realized in 1915-1916, the most terrible years of World War I. Nicholas II was an insatiable photographer. He took special care of pictures, filed them with care in numerous albums. He passed down his love for photography to Maria, his third daughter, who is responsible for colouring most of the pictures. (Photo: Laski Diffusion/Getty Images)
