London doesn't have a reputation for having the best weather, but when the sun does emerge from a long, wet winter, Londoners waste no time getting their shades on and rushing outside to embrace the warmth. Here are our recommendations for things to do in the sun.
1. eat outside at the Maltby street market
Get your fill of street food or sit in the shade in one of the bars tucked into the arches at Maltby Street market.
2. take a dip in the Brockwell lido
Cool down in the water at Brockwell Park’s grade II-listed art deco lido.
3. stroll along columbia road
Even when the Sunday flower market isn’t on, Columbia Road is packed with independent shops and cafes.

Head out west and lounge by the Thames river in Richmond.

Peckham’s rooftop car park bar, Frank's Cafe, gives amazing views over the whole city.

As does Greenwich Park if you’d rather get your panoramas in green open space.
7. cruise along the hackney's canals
As well as the attraction of that cafes and bars along Hackney’s canals, they also wind between Victoria Park and the Olympic Park.

Epping Forest’s 12 miles of woodland has been continually forested since Neolithic times.
9. relax by the barbican terrace
If you’re staying in town, The Barbican’s lake terrace has outdoor space, fountains and the bold Brutalist lines of the Barbican estate to give a bit of shade.
