Lyrics:
The Dream
(Verse)
Steeped and weighted from the sins we’ve perpetrated throughout history
I fell asleep beneath the blooming bows of a cherry tree
I dreamed that I was riding on horse across these sacred battle grounds
Through thick grey smoke and rebel yells and a million whistling musket balls
(Chorus)
I rode into the lines of my enemy
And I help my sword high
Into the face of death we road so bravely
My boys fought and died
(Verse)
The battle raged, the day wore on and our ranks grew thin
But we fought on for this righteous cause that we knew we would win
We broke their lines at a place they now call Rudman’s Hill
Where we fought hand to hand until we could fight no more
There was no one left to kill
(Chorus)
And in the darkness you could hear their voices
The sound of the wounded as they lay
And all we could do was sit and listen
As one by one they slipped away
(Narrative)
It must have been a gust of wind, a passing car or the coldness of the spring ground
Anyway when I awoke there were cherry blossoms falling all around
And as I looked out across these rolling fields I wondered how
This place where man came to kill his father and his brother
Could be so peaceful now
(Chorus)
And if you listen you can hear the sounds
The armies of a hundred thousand men
Marching off into the glory of the battle
In a dream that never ends
