The tree frogs are singing, hoping that it rains.
I’m sitting on my couch, wishing for they same.
But it’s dry, dry, dry in Gainesville today.
I wish I was a cardinal, high up in the blue.
I’d rise over that tree line. I’d fly away from you.
I’d be far, far, far from Gainesville today.
I walk into my kitchen to make myself some tea,
With soymilk and some honey, and I imagine honey bees,
As they’re buzzing in the ether, as their flying through this town,
As they’re pollinating flowers and they’re high above the ground,
‘Cause they’re free, free, free in Gainesville today.
I think that I have sorrows. Such thoughts weigh me down.
If I stop spinning in circles and notice what’s around,
I’d see dragonflies in the sunshine. I’d see turtles on the ground.
I’d see tree frogs in my flowers. I’d see beauty all around.
I’d be free, free, free in Gainesville Today.
Free, free, free in Gainesville Today.
