Josef Patchen is a classically-trained pianist and composer who performs many genres of music and has worked in the Augusta area since 1984. He has been Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta for more than twenty years. He has played with members of the James Brown band as well as the Augusta and Rome symphonies. He has produced six original albums--his first two, "Translation" and "The Sea-Harp" are well-composed music in the new-age style, "Angels in Disguise" is pop influenced by rhythm, blues, country, and classical, and "Cafe Vodun" is world-beat jazz. "Phantasmagoria Bohemiana" is a salute to progressive rock and the virtuoso piano tradition. A holiday album, "A Season For Dreaming", is his latest - meditative musing on the holidays through peaceful arrangements of very traditional seasonal music. The liner notes have been praised as a work of art on their own.
