Bio: Lace Walker has performed professionally in various groups and as a single in over 26 different countries. Broad eclectic influences include John McLaughlin, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Joe Pass, Chick Corea, Hubert Laws, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Taylor, Leo Kottke, Cannonball Adderly, the Beatles and Frank Zappa.
In his early career Lace studied with Dale Brunning while also working as a guitarist and electric bassist for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He also performed as guitarist with the Denver Symphony Orchestra for a Pop Concert series. During this time he consistently moonlighted with various groups, honing his blues and rock skills in clubs and bars throughout Colorado. Acquiring a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for jazz and ethnic study enabled Lace to move to Los Angeles and study with George Shearing's guitarist, Ron Anthony, and later he continued studies with Jamie Faunt (renowned educator and sideman with Chick Corea and countless others).
In his original projects, Lace has had sidemen who have worked with Glen Frey, Jeffrey Osborne, Rare Silk, and Manhattan Transfer. Lace has worked consistently in rock, blues, funk/world, light jazz and R&B groups, both original and cover, in the greater LA area and the western US. He has toured abroad, including an extended engagement in Istanbul, Turkey with his band "Foreign Exchange." Other extended engagements took him to Bangkok, Thailand; Jakarta, Indonesia; Hong Kong, China and Manila, Philippines.
Though focused primarily on guitar, Lace is also an accomplished flutist and vocalist. His versatility extends into many styles and genres, both acoustic and electric. His latest CD, "Acoustic Sketches," is an all original, all acoustic compilation of richly textured and technically satisfying, "easy to be in" songs, each conjuring a different emotionally-tinged landscape in sound.
