Michael's music has been described by the LA Times as "...awash with pain and promise." He strives to entice his listeners with fascinating timbres and elaborate orchestrations and aspires to achieve an emotional reaction from his listeners regardless of their musical background. He has written for film, dance, art installations and the concert stage.
He has won numerous prizes for his works including the Mancini Prize in Film Music at UCLA where he received his MFA in Composition. He studied concert music and film scoring with Paul Chihara, Ian Krouse and Roger Bourland and has been privileged enough to have attended lectures and master-classes by Charles Fox, Bruce Broughton, Michael Dana, Alf Clauson, Christophe Beck, Steven Mackey and John Adams. He received his BM in Composition from Cal State University Northridge where he studied composition and sound design with Liviu Marinescu, Dan Kessner and Daniel Hosken and recording with John Buonamassa.
Michael has written music for numerous short films, trailers, and main titles. He is currently working as assistant to Michael Picton at Zerostudios. He's worked with production companies here in Los Angeles including Shadow Cast Pictures and Little Dog Productions. He has worked with talented directors from AFI, UCLA, LMU, Chapman University, Art Center, Lynda.com, Boys & Girls Club of America and many others.
