A multi-instrumentalist of 20 years, ron [k] began playing his first instrument, drums at age 10. At 18, he got into engineering and midi programming. Purchasing his first 4-Track multi-tracker, he began creating music arrangements on his own, by performing all of the instrument parts. This ultimately led him to take on additional instrument roles such as guitar and synthesizers. ron [k] has defined himself as a musician and his style, purely by the motive of “whatever sounds good to me”.
ron [k] was influenced by the dawning era of mid/late 80's and early 90's industrial bands, such as KMFDM, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult, Skinny Puppy, and Ministry. Other influences include Tom Waits, Dr. John, Foetus, Primus, The Clash and Pink Floyd.
ron [k] does not like to be restricted by creative boundaries. With that in mind, he set out to create a musical platform where anyone involved with the project could perform any role at any time. “I have always disliked the idea of being a ?Proper Band', where everyone has predefined roles, and that is all they are allowed to do." ron [k]'s vision can be summed up as being called a "musical free-for-all".
“For me 'Apathy' was a unique experience both technically and creatively. Traditionally I always wrote music first, then lyrics. 'Apathy' was the first time I wrote lyrics first and music second. I like this process better, having lyrics down from the beginning acted as a pseudo-road map for developing the instrumentation. Everything just came together much smoother,” explains ron [k].
The influential genres found on Apathy are a mix of Electronica and Rock. Apathy blends heavy and diverse guitar work with chaotically calculated drum performances. Coupled with grinding leads, fat bass lines, arpeggiated and ethereal synthesizer sequences. All topped off with unique, interpersonal lyrics, performed with an array of provocatively expression filled vocal styles. Each member brings enough similarities and differences in their own musical tastes and backgrounds to create a profound sonic experience.
